How this site is researched and kept honest

This page exists so you can judge the guidance rather than take it on trust. It is also the page to send us back if we fall short of it.

Who is accountable

Articles here are published by Post A Job as a publication rather than under an individual byline. The organisation is the accountable party: if something is wrong, it is wrong under our name, and we will correct it and say that we did.

Where the numbers come from

Every price, benchmark and statistic falls into one of three categories, and we try to make clear on the page which one you are reading:

  • Published. Taken from the provider's own public pricing page or from an Australian government source. These we treat as fact and date.
  • Reported. Taken from third-party coverage because the provider does not publish a figure. SEEK is the main example: it prices variably and expects you to look up the role. We label these “reported” and give a range rather than a single number.
  • Modelled. Our own calculation from stated assumptions, such as the cost-of-hire figures. The assumptions are shown alongside the result so you can disagree with them.

Where a figure is quoted excluding GST we say so. Prices stated on different GST bases are roughly 10% apart, which is large enough to change a decision, so we state the basis for every row rather than quietly comparing one against the other.

How often it is rechecked

Pages carrying competitor pricing are reviewed at least every six months, and the review date is printed at the top of each article. Job board pricing moves, and a confidently stated stale price is worse than no price at all. If the date at the top of a page is more than six months old, treat the figures as indicative and check with the provider.

How we handle our own product

We publish a job board, and it appears in our own comparisons. The rules we hold ourselves to are: list it on identical terms to everything else, mark it clearly as ours, state where it is smaller or weaker than a competitor, and name the situations where another board is the better choice. The job boards comparison concedes that SEEK reaches more people and is usually worth its higher price on competitive metropolitan salaried roles, because that is true.

Commercial links to our own board are disclosed where they appear, and the ownership disclosure sits in the footer of every page on the site.

What this site is not

It is general information for Australian employers, not legal, financial or tax advice, and it is not a substitute for the Fair Work Ombudsman on award rates, minimum entitlements or termination. Where a question has a legal answer we point at the primary source rather than paraphrasing it.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, or a provider's pricing has changed, tell us and we will fix it and update the review date. Being accurate about our competitors is the only reason this site is worth reading.
